Hog's Breath - Palmerston

Newly opened restaurant, one that I had been eagerly awaiting.

It's a long, narrow restaurant giving one the feeling that we are squashed in like sardines. The seats are quite narrow and hard to sit on. Obviously not meant for customers to partake in long, leisurely meals. Very busy, very noisy.

Service is great - smiling, happy employees. Bending over backwards to assist.

The meals were quite good although rather small for the price. The amount of meat on the ribs would have been one mouthful.

Split bills. This is fantastic. Hog's Breath has the facility to allow split bills on their registers.

  1. I think this Hogs is the same as every other that I have been to.

  2. It must be an American thing they do but the staff seem to me to be overly friendly. I really don't enjoy the experience of having someone sit themselves at my table and talk to me like we're friends. By all means tell me about the Specials but do it standing at my table. It's my table and if I want you to sit at it I'll ask you! Got any healthy kids meals on the menu? Not all kids are chip-a-holics.

  3. I went to Hogs breath again with my nephew and a friend.
friend ordered signature dish of prime rib, only to be told 20 minutes later they had run out...he settled for an ordinary steak, defeating the purpose of our choosing to eat there in the first place.
Was absolutely gobsmacked that when we ordered ribs we were not supplied with a finger bowl or extra napkins until I asked for them.... do restaurants not supply finger bowls anymore for messy meals? Apparently they do, sometimes, a man on the next table was given one when he ordered the same meal.Saying that it was very entertaining watching a nine year old demolish a kilo plate of ribs in bbq sauce!!
Its bad enough that the layout of the restaurant makes you feel like you are packed in like sardines, I watched in horror as staff seated a party of 9, not tiny adults in a booth that in my experience cannot comfortably seat 6.
Future diners take note... if you are booking tables for a larger party make sure that they have room for you!!
Was a disappointing night for adults, culminating in Hoggies losing the business of at least one future customer.

  4. Hogs Breath is a great place for lovers of meat, which I'm not. I'm an occassional liker of meat so I ordered the Chicken Ceassar Salad. It was enjoyable but nothing too special. Hoggies was packed on the night we went so the atmosphere was loud and claustrophobic. Too many people and too noisy, which is good for business but makes for difficult conversation when you can barely hear the person sitting on the other side of the table.
I have since taken my children to eat at Hoggies. They all ordered the Kids Meal with the burger and really seemed to enjoy the whole kiddies package.

  5. My Boyfriend and I have been to Hoggies about 5 times since the Palmerston restaurant opened. Each time was different. The first time we went i decided to order the chicken Caesar wrap, which had barely any chicken aside from a few pieces here and there. My Boyfriend went for the STEAK! However they ran out of the 18 hour slow cooked steak to my boyfriends disappointment. This became a regular occurrence each time we went. The next few times we went my boyfriend ordered the same thing as usual, while i decided to try something different. The chicken dijonnaise was one of the best i had there, while the chicken parmigiana was average like everywhere else. Whereas the steak was less than what was expected, i asked for well done however it came out burned. I've been told since that ALL steak is burned when its 'well done', i highly doubt it. Overall Hoggies changes each time you go, and seems to a popular place for birthdays and what not, so we will probably be seeing more of Hoggies in the future.

  6. Well when i went to Hogs Breath they made us wait for 20min because lack of seating which was funny because there were 7 seats not in use and did not look like they were booked. When we were finally seated and ordered the food was quite good except for the dessert (chocolate cake) which seemed to be drowning in all the chocolate sauce that had been put on it.

  11. I had dinner at Hoggie's again just the other night, my son chose the venue. We didn't have to wait too long for our meals. He wasn't impressed with how small his meal was, so he ended up eating most of my steak.
I was bemused to find two carbohydrates on my plate, mashed potatoes and rice. This is a cheap way to fill the plate.
Our waitress was really pleasant, it's always interesting to hear the different accents; on this evening we were served by a pleasant English lass.
We went early, 5:30pm, and it quickly got busy. It would be best to book a table.
Not one of my favourite places to eat.
