Finz restaurant is located at the Mantra on the Esplanade, Darwin.
Three of us ventured out this evening - we wanted to try out a restaurant that was a little more up market to see what differences there would be in the main meals. We found a limited choice of 8 main meals however they all sounded delicious.
We waited half an hour for our meals, even though the restaurant wasn't overly busy.
The Pan Fried Barramundi with Asian style broth, Mushroom Chilli, Bok Choy and Vermicelli Noodles was exquisitely presented and delicious. It was moist, flavoursome and just melted in your mouth. Such a pity that it was a small serving, I could have eaten twice the amount. For $32.00 I would have liked a little more.

The Sesame Crusted Atlantic Salmon with Asian Greens, Cucumber Onion and Herb Salad, priced at $32.00, looked appealing and you could tell it was a meal to die for. It was enjoyed immensely with one comment being, "well worth the money."

Our third meal was a disappointment. Chicken Breast stuffed with Semi-Dried Tomato, Cream Cheese in a light Red Curry Sauce, topped with Carrot and Coriander Salad, $32.00. What came out of the kitchen was not what was advertised on the menu. Instead of being a stuffed breast it was rolled chicken.

Watch this blog for further comments as I'm sure the other diners will post their thoughts and feelings on what they thought of their meals.
Be prepared to spend up big when visiting this restaurant. The main meals aren't cheap, $28-$35, most entrees are $18.00, desserts $12.00, side serves $5.50 and children's meals, $10.00. And remember, if you want to leave feeling full, then it's best to order more than just the main meal.
They also have cheese platters on offer, $22 - $32. Certainly a pleasant addition to the menu.
I was a little disappointed to see that the children's meals were rather boring and typical of a fast food outlet... served with chips.
The service was good with staff ensuring that we were happy. We presented a discount voucher upon payment, this being accepted with no problems at all.
MMMMMMMMM.... my Atlantic Salmon was beautiful. Perfectly cooked with not even a hint of dryness!! The asian greens were a combination of blanched green beans, broccolini and wilted bok choy, and the cucumber, onion and herb salad had a very subtle flavour. The foods on my plate complimented each other wonderfully.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed every single bite!!
I enjoyed the environment, apart from the clattering as at one point the staff began to set up for the next mornings breakfast.
Loved it!!
Finz proved a very enjoyable place to dine. The decor is minimalist with a tropical feel. The restraunt overlooks the pool area although no-one was taking the plunge last night.
ReplyDeleteThe menu's limited offerings all sounded mouth watering and most definitely tempting. Given that there was no Specials board per se but rather a 'board du jour', I ordered the stuffed chicken breast from the menu. I have ordered stuffed chicken breast on numerous occassions and have never before had it presented as a sliced roll. The usual presentation is a whole stuffed breast. This breast meat was very thin and even the moist cream cheese and sun dried tomato filling couldn't help to avoid the inevitable dryness. The red curry sauce added a flavoursome spicy accent and delivered some welcome moistness to the roll. If you look at the photos you will notice that the salad topping the chicken is replicated in the barramundi dish; albeit by another name. I must add though that each of the three meals was beautifully presented and certainly a feast for the eyes.
The staff at Finz were both polite and professional. A quality that certainly added to the dining experience.
I have two suggestions to make. The first, that either the menu be altered to reflect the true nature of the chicken breast or that it be explained upon ordering. The second, that setting up the breakfast buffet not happen while diners are enjoying their meal as it is most distracting and gives the feeling that one should hurry up and finish eating. Do the staff realize that if you are seated facing the chafers the overhead lighting is reflected from them straight into your eyes?
Finz is a restraunt that I would suggest you try; especially at present with their discount vouchers.
